Japanese construction and mining equipment manufacturer Komatsu has resumed the supply of spare parts for its equipment to Ukraine, which was stopped after Russia’s extensive invasion of Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Nikkei, citing the statement of the head of the Japanese company Hiroyuki Ogawa.
According to him, as Russian troops were withdrawn from Kiev and other changes were observed, the company determined that it had safe transport routes to its distributors.
“Ukraine has a well-developed industry of iron ore and other natural resources. After the start of hostilities with Russia, the cars were still working in the mines, and we continued to deliver parts to distributors, “said Hiroyuki Ogawa Nikkei.
According to the company, Komatsu spare parts currently only arrive in areas of Ukraine that are considered safe. The supply of supplies to the temporarily occupied areas in the east of the country was stopped.
Although Komatsu has stopped exporting and manufacturing equipment to Russia, it continues to provide spare parts and services through its distributors in Russia using excavators, dump trucks and other machinery.
In 2022, Komatsu forecasts revenue of 67 billion yen ($527 million) from sales of construction equipment in the CIS, which is 64% less than last year.
As Ukrinform previously reported, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on May 19 that Tokyo will provide Ukraine with an additional $300 million in financial aid.
