Dune is coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator

It’s just missing two days until the premiere of Dune: Part Two, the long-awaited sequel to the 2021 film, with which the remarkable Denis Villeneuve gave us a new vision of Frank Herbert’s exceptional work. After suffering a bit of a delay to our originally planned release date of next Thursday, February 15th, we’ll finally be able to return to Arrakis and pick up the story where the first installment left off.

The third trailer, released in mid-December, It has already helped us start talking about what lies ahead., after the first trailer, which served as an update on the protagonists of this film. This time we will see Atreides leading the Fremen in the fight against the Harkonnens. I personally enjoyed the first episode quite a bit (although I was disappointed by the minimal presence of Zendaya, after her image was very actively used to promote the film), I intend to play it again before heading to any of my favorite viewing rooms sooner or later The Dunes: Part Two.

Now, as an aviation fan, I admit it one of the reasons I want to see this new installment of Dune is to see the ornithopters again in action. Yes, you know, those dragonfly-shaped helicopters that are so characteristic of the Dune universe, and which present very interesting challenges if we consider what it will be like to fly them in a realistic flight simulator. In reality, of course, we don’t have to imagine it because we can experience it.

As Microsoft already told us at the Xbox Showcase 2023 and as before with Top Gun: Maverick, we will find a new interaction between its flight simulator and a big movie premiere and a new update Microsoft Flight Simulator takes us into the Dune space and puts us in control of an ornithopteran experience that I have only been able to try for a few minutes so far, but which is most promising.

As expected, Controlling an ornithopter is more similar to controlling a helicopter than controlling an airplane, a light aircraft or fighter, but it has some quirks that add much more excitement to the experience, such as its high speed and yes, the ability to fold its wings to perform dives at terrifying speeds. And as for the recreation of Arrakis, it really gives you the feeling that the desert stretches into infinity. In addition to free flight, this expansion includes tutorials for takeoff, landing, and freefall, and six activities that you can perform once you’ve mastered the basic techniques.

Even though Microsoft already told us This year we have a new installment, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024which is undoubtedly among the most exciting titles of this year, we see that at least for now there is still a lot of activity planned around MFS 2020, something that deserves to be highlighted, even more so considering that all the updates published up to now, including this one from Dune: Part Two, are completely free.
