Israel releases video of Hamas leader running through tunnel

The Israeli army has released video from a surveillance camera located in a tunnel in Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, identifying Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) leader Yahya Sinwar fleeing with his family.

“In a recording made on October 10, at the beginning of the war, he and his family fled underground,” army spokesman Daniel Hagari said at a press conference, The Times of Israel reported.

The video shows – identified by the Israeli army – his brother Ibrahim, as well as his wife and children.

The army released the footage after a special forces operation in which they inspected a tunnel containing two bathrooms, a kitchen and a room belonging to a Hamas leader.

“High-ranking Hamas officials lived in the compound in good conditions. “They had food and bathrooms and safes containing millions of shekels and dollars in cash,” he said, adding that they were “determined” to capture Sinwar.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip reported the death of three civilians as a result of shots fired by an Israeli army sniper at the Nasser medical complex in the city of Khan Yunis.

The non-governmental organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF), for its part, expressed concern about the security situation at the hospital, where displaced people sheltering inside the building were ordered by Israeli troops to evacuate the premises.

“People are afraid to leave the hospital because they hear news about people being shot in the street. A safe exit must be provided for those wishing to leave the facilities,” MSF added on its social media account X (formerly Twitter).
