Apple announces it has lost another long-time member of its industrial design team Bloomberg. Bart Andre, who has been working at Apple for more than 30 years, will retire this year.

Andre joined Apple in 1992 alongside Jony Ive and is one of the last members of the design team to work with Ive to create Apple’s famous design aesthetic during Ive’s tenure.

Andre helped lead the design team following the departure in 2022 of Evans Hankey, who served as Apple’s vice president of industrial design after I left in 2019. When I left Apple to create LoveFrom, many of the designers he worked with left with him, and other members of the design team have since left as well.

Following Evans Hankey’s departure, Apple eliminated the chief product designer role and restructured its product design team under chief operating officer Jeff Williams. According to this BloombergSome on the design team are unhappy about being led by an operations specialist rather than a designer, and cost-cutting efforts have also changed the way the design team works.
