Mozilla said the move affected about 5% of its staff and that the cuts were mainly in the product development department.
“We are reducing investments in some product areas to focus on areas we believe have the best chance of success. We plan to reprioritize resources on products like Firefox Mobile, where there is a significant opportunity to grow and create a better model for the industry,” Mozilla said in a statement.

Chambers joined Mozilla’s board of directors three years ago.

The last time Mozilla made a significant number of layoffs was four years ago, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to the Firefox web browser, Mozilla products include the Thunderbird email software and the Pocket article-saving application.
