When will Android 15 be released?
In a comment posted on the Android Open Source Project site on Tuesday morning, a Google developer revealed that the first preview of Android 15 is planned for Thursday, February 15, 2024. The developer calls it “Android V,” which stands for “Vanilla Ice Cream,” which is the version’s internal “sweet” codename.
If the timing doesn’t change, the first Android 15 Developer Preview will be released a little over a week after the launch of Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1. Notably, the first Android 15 preview will arrive later than last year’s preview. It was released on February 8, 2023.
It is safe to assume that Only Pixel devices will be eligible for the Android 15 Developer Previewjust like in previous years. Those who sign up for the beta update will likely stick with Android 14 for now, as “Developer Preview” versions are generally less stable and not ready for general availability.
This Android 15 Developer Preview should give us our first solid idea of what we can expect from Google’s next annual mobile operating system release. Over the past year we’ve gotten plenty of hints about features Google has added to the code but hasn’t yet launched. The main “Private Field” featureThis allows you to hide certain apps and prevent them from appearing in the app list. Are we familiar? Yes, because similar capabilities have long been available to various third-party manufacturers that provide their own shells to their smartphones. This isn’t the first feature Google has borrowed from its market partners.
