Apple started selling the Vision Pro earlier this month, and early reviews have been largely positive. But the review of someone very special, the head of the only company with real possibilities to challenge those from Cupertino, was missing.
The Meta Quest 3, along with the HTC Vive, is the only serious “competition” to Apple’s Vision Pro. And we use quotation marks because it’s not easy to compare products that are priced so differently. From $499 to $3,400 The cost of (at least) Apple devices goes a long way. You don’t need to do many checks to ensure this In terms of price/performance, the Quest 3 is better.
That’s where we thought the Meta CEO’s conclusions (and also Quest’s once it was acquired by Facebook) were headed. But Mark Zuckerberg went even further when, after testing the Vision Pro, he declared: “Not only do I think the Quest is a better value, I think the Quest is a better product, period”.
“Different companies have made different decisions about headset design, and each has its strengths. But overall, Quest is better for the vast majority of things that people use mixed reality for.”says Zuckerberg.
Executive advocates that Meta Quest 3 is more comfortable during activities such as exercise and gaming, because the Meta headphones weigh significantly less than the Vision Pro, around 120 grams. Meta’s CEO criticized Apple for sacrificing aspects such as comfort of use and ergonomics to mount screens with a higher resolution, in which the Vision Pro is clearly better.
However, while demonstrating the streaming capabilities with browser windows, Zuckerberg noted that the Quest 3 has a wider field of view and that the combination of manual tracking and physical control is excellent. In addition, the company is considering including eye tracking, which was introduced in the Quest Pro, in its entry-level line of headsets.
The leader also mentioned that Meta Quest 3 supports Xbox games and they actually support Xbox Cloud Gaming through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Another highlight of the Meta is its larger app library, although Apple intends to catch up quickly.
Isn’t it surprising that Zuckerberg is promoting his device, but is it really better globally, as the CEO of Meta says? Or would it be more accurate to talk about the price/performance ratio?? How do you see it?
