US Deputy Secretary of Defense Heidi Shue, who conducts research and development at the Pentagon, announced the creation of a new fuel for hypersonic missiles.
“One of the areas of development for researchers is a high-yield fuel that will allow us to triple the operating range of hypersonic weapons. <…> And this is the result of the work of a university research project,” he said while speaking at a hearing before the House Armed Services Affairs Committee of the US Congress.
The Pentagon is not disclosing details about the development because it is a military secret.
Last year, the Pentagon invested $1.5 billion in infrastructure for testing hypersonic weapons: “Especially at the expense of this $1.5 billion, the speed of testing hypersonic weapons will triple.”
