Imagine a laptop whose screen changes from standard size to ultrawide when you need it. This futuristic concept is no longer just science fiction, thanks to a patent recently published by Lenovo. This patent reveals a revolutionary design for a laptop with a foldable display and will potentially revolutionize the way we work and consume content on the go.

How does it work?

The basis of this innovation is a flexible screen built into the body of the laptop. This screen consists of fixed and movable parts that can be opened and closed smoothly by adjusting the size of the screen to your needs.

This isn’t the first time Lenovo has shown interest in portable laptops. At last year’s MWC fair, Lenovo had already demonstrated a unique laptop prototype with a folded OLED display. The 13-inch folded laptop offers a 12.7-inch screen in its compact form, but can be expanded vertically to a larger 15.3-inches with the press of a button.

But why is this so important? Traditional laptops, despite their undeniable portability, often have a limited screen size. This can be a big problem for multitaskers, creative professionals, or anyone who likes to have more screen real estate. Lenovo’s rollable display technology directly addresses this issue by providing a dynamic solution that adapts to your workflow.

The benefits go beyond a larger screen. Imagine using the extended display to edit documents in parallel, enjoy the movie experience, or even enjoy the big world of games without sacrificing mobility. The possibilities are truly endless.

Of course, this technology is still in its infancy. While foldable smartphones will hit the market sooner, foldable and foldable laptops present unique engineering challenges. But the potential is undeniable. If Lenovo can overcome these hurdles and offer these laptops at affordable prices, it could seriously disrupt the traditional laptop market.

Lenovo also plans to introduce its transparent laptop concept at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (2024). Leaked images show a frameless display with the main components placed on an opaque base. The laptop appears to support a pen and runs Windows 11. Important details such as specifications and release date are unknown, but more information is expected at MWC.
