Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated this Saturday to the Russian army for conquest bastion Avdovkain eastern Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The head of the Kremlin was informed by the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu about the capture of the city, where fighting has not stopped since October last year.

“Minister of Defense General Sergei Shoigu informed the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in the Kremlin about the seizure of full control over Avdivka of the Donetsk People’s Republic,” the official note says.

Meanwhile, Putin congratulated “all units that participated in the battles for Avdovka” in a telegram.

“Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in battle,” the president’s message says.

The head of the Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, thanked the Russian army for the capture of the Ukrainian bastion, located several kilometers from the regional capital of the same name and controlled by Moscow since 2014.

“On behalf of all residents of Donbass, I thank our troops, our army and our president for the fact that the Donetsk People’s Republic continues to liberate and Avdovka is with us”

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense emphasized that only a few Ukrainian formations managed to leave Avdivka, “abandoning their weapons and military equipment.”

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said this Saturday that the actions of his country’s troops at the front are limited only by a lack of ammunition and long-range missiles from the West, which allows Russia to adapt to the situation on the battlefield.

“Our actions are limited only by the effectiveness and reach of our forces. Avdovka is proof of this,” he said after the withdrawal of Kyiv troops from the eastern city. (EFE)
