What is the plan for Android 15?

Although its introduction is still months away, and even more until its arrival, Google has already started providing the first previews of Android 15the future version of its operating system for mobile devices, which has occupied the first place in this market for more than a decade, with iOS being the only “competitor”, although I put it in quotation marks because neither the iPhone can do Android, nor can Android devices use iOS as you already know.

Be that as it may, the operating system is a part in both cases value proposition in the smartphone market, which is why both Apple and Google release their big updates on fairly close dates, although it’s true that Apple tends to be more regular in this regard. Be that as it may, we expect the arrival of both Android 15 and iOS 18 for the return of summer holidays and farewell to the summer heat.

Up until now, we’ve had more information about Apple’s OS than Google’s, but we just told you yesterday those of the search engine have already released the first beta version for developers and therefore we already have a first preview of what we can expect from Android 15. However, we still have many months of work ahead of us, so there will surely be more news until we start seeing the final version of the operating system.

What is the plan for Android 15?

Since the first beta of the future version of the operating system is already available, the question is obvious, What is the plan for Android 15? And the good news is that we don’t have to rely on leaks or speculations (except for one point, at the end) because it was revealed by Google itself on the developer site, so we can now confirm that, except for the inexplicable year, we will see a calendar quite similar to last year with Android 14.

February and March, as we see in the image, will be beta months (Developer Preview 1 and 2) exclusive to developers, unstable and therefore not recommended for the end user, especially on their usual device. April and May are the months planned for beta versions 1 and 2, for multiple user profiles, and the announcement or launch of one of them will probably happen around Google I/O 2024. The addition of new features will end in June, at which point development will focus on system stability, which we can judge with beta 3. And July and August, with beta 4 (and updates), we are getting closer to the final version.

Of course, they did not tell us the month planned for its launch, i.e. the arrival of Android 15. But since we are talking about a calendar similar to that of Android 14, it is more than likely that its launch coincides with the arrival of the future Google Pixel 9, which we basically expect at the beginning of Octoberalthough this particular point is speculation.
