Rocket Lab launches a satellite into orbit to combat space debris
On Sunday, February 18, Rocket Lab successfully launched the ADRAS-J satellite of the Japanese Astroscale company, which will be used in operations to remove space debris from Earth’s orbit.

This was reported by Space.com, as reported by Ukrinform.

The Electron launch vehicle carrying ADRAS-J was launched from the spaceport in New Zealand. Rocket Lab has already confirmed that the satellite has been launched into orbit.

The device will seek to make progress in humanity’s fight against space debris, a problem that continues to grow as more and more satellites are launched into orbit, the statement said.

In particular, the instrument should examine the legacy stage of the Japanese H-2A rocket, which remained in low Earth orbit after the launch of the GOSAT satellite in 2009. During the ADRAS-J mission, with the help of on-board cameras, it will collect data to determine the dynamics of this inoperable object and recommend solutions for its safe removal.

“This mission is the first phase of the Orbital Debris Clearance Program, and during this phase ADRAS-J is designed to test debris approach and tracking technologies and operations,” Rocket Lab officials said. said.

The 150-kilogram ADRAS-J will also transmit “data to help remove space debris to ensure sustainable use of space for future generations,” the statement said.

As Ukrinform reported, on January 31, Rocket Lab successfully launched four satellites into space as part of the Four of a Kind mission.

Four 16U spacecraft, each weighing six kilograms, are said to be built by Spire “to provide space-based weather monitoring as well as maritime and aviation tracking.”
