Proximus wants to move its B2B IT activities to a new office that will better reflect the difference from traditional telecommunications activities.

Proximus will spin off its B2B IT activities. The telecommunications provider plays an important role in the Belgian business IT market and points out that its activities differ significantly from the classic telecommunications role of Proximus. To better reflect this distinction, Proximus would like to combine all IT services into the company PICT (short for Proximus ICT).

The restructuring will affect 350 to 400 people. You would technically change employers. Therefore, the social partners still have to agree to the plans. Job losses are not an issue and discussions with the unions have been positive.

Different pace of investment and different culture

Proximus believes the step is necessary because its IT activities are marketed very differently than its telecommunications offering. Both services are also based on a different investment model. Telecommunications benefits from huge upfront investments in infrastructure, then it’s time to reap the benefits.

In B2B IT, people and knowledge are much more important. The subsidiary must be able to go its own way and have its own culture. According to Proximus, this will help attract talent. On the other hand, unbundling should also make Proximus itself more agile.

For the second half of the year

Anne-Sophie Lotgering, who currently handles all B2B business at Proximus, will lead the new company. If all goes well, the activities will be transferred to PICT nv from July 1, 2024. Proximus hopes to share more information in April after dialogue with those involved. The new structure is scheduled to be implemented in the second half of the year.

“This transformation will allow us to fully leverage both our high-end telecommunications solutions and our tailored IT services for business customers,” said Lotgering. “We continue to offer small and medium-sized businesses an accessible and comprehensive portfolio of converged telecommunications and IT solutions.”
