The website of the hacker group LockBit has been deleted by international authorities. Has LockBit’s swansong begun?

The UK’s national cyber agency NCA claims LockBit’s scalp on the group’s own website. “The site is now under police control. We can confirm that LockBit’s services have been suspended due to international law enforcement actions – this is an ongoing and evolving matter,” a statement on the website reads.

The closure of the site is an indication that international police forces have given LockBit a taste of its own medicine. NCA did not achieve this on its own: under the code name “Operation Cronos,” the agency received help from the FBI and Europol, among others. The national police forces of eleven countries were also actively involved in the operation, including the Dutch police, writes NOS.

Dreaded group

LockBit has made enemies worldwide. It is currently one of the most active and feared groups. LockBit’s victims include big names like Boeing, but it particularly sparked outrage with attacks on children’s hospitals. In our country, the group has been behind several attacks on local municipal authorities. LockBit is also one of the driving forces behind the ransomware-as-a-service economy.

Screenshots shared on LockBit itself claims that its servers with the stolen data did not fall into the hands of the police and are already in the process of “rebuilding,” although this claim is difficult to verify. Further information will be released from the various camps in the coming days.
