In Jordan, teachers prepare video lessons for Gaza children

Teaching a lesson in front of a camera, but without students in the room: this is a new challenge that Fairuz set himself a month ago. This The physics teacher has already recorded eight classes, all aimed at children in the Gaza Strip.

To better explain to the students who would be attending their classes, the teacher had to adapt his methodology.

Fairuz, a high school physics and chemistry teacher, said that “the only thing I’ve had to change from the regular classroom is how I accommodate distance learning,” adding:

This time students don’t need any special equipment to do the exercises, they just need to understand the general idea and reproduce it with the new examples I give.

80 teachers mobilized

Physics and chemistry, mathematics, English or Arabic literature.… In a dozen classrooms turned into a recording studio, 80 teachers are busy preparing classes. Once completed, the video is edited by several volunteers from the Jordanian association.

Sarah Kawasmi, director of Jo Academy, explains the process:

For the teacher, the camera really becomes the student, the teacher explains his lesson and so the lesson is taught for an hour.

There is currently no date set for when the first children in the Gaza Strip will be able to attend the classes, which will be uploaded to the app so they can be easily downloaded from the internet. It will have modules covering all levels up to post-secondary education.
