Hamas: US veto of Gaza ceasefire increases civilian suffering

HamasThe Islamic Resistance Movement stated that US veto to a new UN Security Council resolution call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip “suffering is increasing” for Palestinians in the enclave, where Israel killed 29,200 Palestinians for more than 4 months.

“We strongly condemn US President Joe Biden’s veto of Algeria’s draft resolution in the Security Council calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

“This veto serves the Israeli occupation agenda, impedes international efforts to end the aggression and increases the suffering of our people,” the Palestinian newspaper Filasteen said in a statement.

In this sense, the police considered that “Biden and his administration are directly responsible prevent a decision on stop aggression against Gaza“, given that:

America’s position is a green light for the occupation authorities to commit new massacres.

“Washington is responsible for funding and political support for Israel”

For his part, Mohamed al-Hindi, leader of the political wing of Islamic Jihad, expressed regret that “Israel is waging a genocidal war and no one is holding it accountable“.

“There is no destination for civilians who are starving everywhere, and Washington is responsible for arming, funding and politically supporting Israel,” he said.

The Palestinian Authority also condemned Washington’s use of veto power in the body responsible for maintaining peace and security around the world.

In addition, he noted that this position “challenges the will of the international community” by giving “an additional green light” for the Israeli occupation to continue its aggression against the population of the Gaza Strip and carrying out a bloody attack on Rafah.”

The Palestinian President stressed that Joe’s government Biden supports and ‘provides protection’ for Israeli authoritiesfor which he accuses him of “continuing aggression against Palestinian children, women and the elderly,” according to the news agency WAFA.

“The US is a partner in Israel’s crime of genocide, ethnic cleansing and war crimes against the Palestinians.”

“This policy makes the United States a partner in the crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing and war crimes committed by Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. “This policy has become a danger to the world and a threat to international peace and security.”

Finally, he thanked the Security Council member states who “stood on the side of justice, peace and human ethics and supported the resolution calling for a stop to Israeli aggression.”

US repeals resolution calling for end to war in Gaza for third time

This Monday, the United States used its veto power – for the third time on this issue – to overturn the Algiers resolution, which only these people voted against.

Of the remaining 14 council members, 13 voted in favor, while the UK, which also has the ability to block, chose to abstain.

Text promoted respect for international law in the Gaza Strip and it had already been met with reluctance by the United States, which offered an alternative proposal in which the call for an immediate ceasefire was postponed.

Failure to act on the part of the Council will likely lead to a new emergency session of the UN General Assembly, a body in which all member states of the organization are represented and in which no country has the ability to veto any text. (Europe Press)
