On Tuesday, several Belgian government websites fell victim to a DDoS attack by Russian hackers.
Russian hackers have found their way to a number of Belgian government websites, including Prime Minister Alexander De Croo’s website and that of the House of Representatives. On Tuesday, these websites were temporarily difficult to access due to a DDoS attack. The attack was described by the Center for Cybersecurity as a short-lived game of cat and mouse. Over the past few months, several websites have been down due to DDoS attacks.

The hacker collective announced the attack via Telegram with the following reason: “We have read that Belgium, as well as a number of other Russophobic countries, provided financial support to Zelensky’s criminal regime last year.” The Center for Cybersecurity described the attack as “a short-lived cat – and mouse game that lasted about two hours”. This does not mean that the website was completely inactive, but it did not function properly at times.
In recent months, several websites have been down due to the so-called DDoS attack. This is a technique in which cybercriminals send a large number of requests to websites, making them slower or inaccessible to users.
