1Password acquires Kolide, expanding its range of security and management solutions.
Password manager 1Password has announced that it will acquire Kolide, a Boston-based endpoint security platform. 1Password CEO Jeff Shiner announced that Kolide CEO Jason Meller and all 30 Kolide employees will be joining 1Password “as one intact team.” The amount of the takeover is not known. Kolide is 1Password’s third acquisition and is interesting for its security and context management solutions.
Optimized security solutions
Employees are increasingly working from different locations and using a mix of personal and business devices. This presents many challenges in terms of security. Every device or login, regardless of location, must be secure. Kolide offers security and context management solutions for this and works according to a similar approach to 1Password. The tool is present on all endpoints a user works with and ensures that an insufficiently secure device cannot access important apps, even if the correct password is entered.
Kolide also has an interesting approach to self-healing. The company believes that employees are not necessarily the weakest link in the security chain, but sometimes even the strongest. For example, by informing them via Slack and suggesting solutions in the event of a problem, Kolide wants to improve the security situation of organizations. The tool works with the open source Osquery platform.
synergy
1Password and Kolide see a lot of synergies. With 1Password, companies can provide their employees with the tools to keep their passwords safe. Kolide builds on this and gives them the tools they need to secure their devices. This acquisition is 1Password’s third in a row. The company previously acquired SecretHub and Passage.
