PlayStation adds support for access keys as an alternative to passwords

PlayStation Account holders will soon be able to use a passkey as an alternative to a password when logging into their PlayStation Account online, in an app or on a PlayStation device.

The passkey integration is planned to be available at some point today, and users will be able to sign in and authenticate to their accounts using Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode on their iPhone.

Access keys are considered more convenient and secure than regular passwords because the login process is simplified through biometric authentication. With no password to steal and no one-time SMS code to intercept, access keys are resistant to online attacks such as phishing.

Apple has supported public passwords since 2022, and password keys are available in iOS 16 and later, iPadOS 16 and later, and macOS Ventura and later. Many companies, including Twitter, Google, PayPal, Best Buy, Microsoft, and eBay, are implementing access key support.
