Microsoft has used this type of nomenclature since the launch of Windows. Not particularly elegant, but it’s pretty clear because it defines the release date exactly. So write down the name of the version that must be important; the biggest for Windows 11 this year, and — arguably — the one that will delay the launch of Windows 12, which increasingly looks certain won’t arrive until near the end of Windows 10’s lifecycle, in October 2025.
You will not be surprised that what we have known until now as Windows 11 24H2 will be focused on AI. Or in what Microsoft considers the next generation of ‘PC AI’. The vision is important given the dominance of Windows on the desktop and the fact that on PCs it should focus on productivity tasks, search or above all security, although in the future it will be able to perform almost any type of task.
Microsoft announced this last week new options for Copilot which are developed in test versions. Here we can see the specific features that will be supported, such as:
Accessibility features were also added, such as enabling Narrator; open voice access; turn on the magnifying glass; change text size; activate high contrast or voice typing. All this will be added to the other features that Copilot supports from version 2311, among which stand out:
Overall, Copilot on Windows now supports 29 different tasks and the above (and more) are expected to be added in the Windows 11 2024 update. AI-focused version, although we will have some interesting new features, such as a new look for installations from scratch, the ‘sudo’ command for the Windows console or automatic super resolution graphics.
It remains to be seen what the version’s minimum hardware requirements are, as enabling the AI features will require – at the very least – more RAM. The Windows 11 2024 update should arrive between October and November. Earlier, probably in March, Microsoft will release a smaller update “Moments 5”.
