The fact that we can delete messages in WhatsApp is nothing new. Sometimes it happens that we accidentally delete a message. WhatsApp now has a solution for this and allows you to retrieve deleted messages in WhatsApp. Although the idea is well thought out, the implementation requires a little more attention.
Go to a conversation in WhatsApp and long press the message you want to delete. Then click Garbage. A selection mask then appears with “Delete for everyone”, “Delete for myself” or “Cancel”. Click on the desired option. The first option is available two days after sending the message. You can’t recover deleted messages for everyone. The feature only works with the “Delete for myself” option.
You have to be quick to retrieve deleted messages. If you have deleted a message just for yourself, a banner will appear indicating that you can undo the action. The message will then appear again in the chat window. This feature only works for deleting messages for yourself.
This feature also works if you want to delete multiple messages at once. Other media types such as photos, videos and documents can also be accessed this way. The downside is that it retrieves all selected deleted messages and you cannot choose to retrieve a message from the selection.
The idea behind it is certainly interesting, but the implementation could use a little more attention. Currently the feature only works for messages that you have deleted yourself. Also, you need to quickly click on the “Undo” button, which will only appear in the banner for five seconds. After that, you have lost your chance to retrieve the message. Additionally, this feature is not yet functional on WhatsApp for Desktop, but is available for iOS and WhatsApp Web. The process for this is similar to the explanation above.
Would you like more guarantee that your WhatsApp messages won’t accidentally disappear? Then it certainly makes sense to regularly create a backup of your WhatsApp conversations. This way you won’t lose access to your messages if you change devices.
Go to in your WhatsApp Institutions and then click Chats. You can click on that Create a backup. This can be done via Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iPhone.
