Dell announces new Latitude series laptops and also launches new Precision workstations. The new models come with an Intel Core Ultra to run AI workloads locally.
Dell officially kicks off MWC 2024 this morning with the launch of new laptops and workstations. All models announced today have one thing in common: they have an Intel Core Ultra processor with integrated NPU. This hardware handles AI-related workloads and is a prerequisite for the trendy marketing term “AI PC” to be applied to a device. The copilot key combination should not be missing either.
“Every business that wants to remain competitive must implement AI in some way, and AI PCs will be at the center of that,” said Sam Burd, president of the Client Solutions Group at Dell Technologies. At the same time, the manufacturer says during the press conference that AI in your PC is not that new.
In fact, you don’t need an NPU to run AI applications like ChatGPT on your PC as many AI services are offered through the cloud. The presence of an NPU simply ensures that a PC can do this locally and more energy efficiently, but that’s less revolutionary than Intel’s marketing department would have you believe.
The spearhead of the new product range is the Latitude 7350 Following. The last word tells you that you can use the laptop as a 2-in-1. Looking beyond the AI hype, you still have a robust business laptop with the latest Intel Core Ultra processor (Ultra 5 or 7) and WiFi 7 support. The 3K display measures 13.2 inches and can be detached from the housing and serves as a tablet screen. Dell offers two Tunderbolt 4 ports, an audio jack, an (optional) fingerprint scanner and a 65W USB-C charger. The manufacturer is also happy to show off the 8 MP HDR webcam.
The Latitude 7350 Following will be released in the second quarter. The manufacturer has a habit of not communicating prices until devices are actually available for sale, and this also applies to all devices announced today.
The Dell Latitude series is further expanded with the Latitude 7350 and 7450 models Ultralight, which the manufacturer says are the “lightest commercial 13-inch and 14-inch laptops.” The Latitude 5350, 5450, 5550, 7650 and 9540 complete the portfolio. All these devices will be released starting March 12th.
AI isn’t just in the hardware of laptops: Dell is also announcing new software suites that give IT management a touch of artificial intelligence. ProSupport Assist helps users troubleshoot their PCs without human intervention, and AI can also be used to keep updates on schedule. Dell also wants to help its employees learn how to use generative AI Employee Experience Services-Platform.
It doesn’t stop at laptops: Dell is also expanding the Precision series of (mobile) workstations. Once again, it’s the AI that counts. The Precision 5490 (14-inch) and Precision 5690 (16-inch) mobile workstations are equipped with an Intel Core Ultra (up to Ultra 9) and an Nvidia RTX 5000 for heavier graphics work.
If you prefer a classic desktop computer, you can choose the Precision 3680 Tower, equipped with an Intel Core i9. There are different types of ports, from DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.0 to USB 3.2. With its compact form factor, the Dell Precision 3280 takes up less space in your work setup. You can even mount the table shelf on the back of a monitor.
Finally, Dell is announcing five additional professional headsets: three without cables (WL7024, WL5024, WL3024) and two with cables (WH5024, WH3024). It won’t surprise you at this point that the devices have AI in them to control noise cancellation. This ensures that noise cancellation is filtered out on both sides, both in your earflaps and in the microphone. Whether this is as revolutionary as Dell proclaims it remains to be seen. The top model WL7024 will be available from April and we already know the price: $499.99.
