Gigabyte is showing a variant of its powerful G593 HPC server at MWC. The company had previously relied on Nvidia, but now the server is coming onto the market with AMD’s most powerful accelerator.
At this year’s CES, Gigayte introduced its new G593 server series. You can think of these robust 5U servers as a kind of supercomputer components tailor-made for AI accelerators. While the servers at CES were still intended exclusively for the Nvidia HGX H100 chips, Gigabyte is showing a new model at MWC that is based on the AMD equivalent.
The server therefore has up to eight AMD Instinct MI300X chips on board. The AMD Instinct MI300X is the pure accelerator variant of the Instinct MI300A, which has a CPU component. Gigabyte would like to make a name for itself on the market with such HPC servers and traditionally uses trade fairs to market its extremely high-quality servers. However, the manufacturer does not provide many details about the servers.
It is also noticeable that Gigabyte continues to call itself Gigabyte in its press release and on its stand. Last year, the Taiwanese company spun off its data center division under the name Giga Computing. At first the branding appeared here and there, but in the latest press release the brand name isn’t even mentioned anymore.
