This is reported on the company’s website social networks HAccording to Ukrinform.
Odysseus stays on the moon for four days. It landed 1.5 kilometers away from Malapert A’s planned landing area using a laser ranging system.
The first image was taken by Odysseus during his descent to the Malapert A landing site, a spot in the southern region of the Moon. Another photo was taken by the device 35 seconds after it was inverted during the Moon landing.
The development company stated that the device maintains communication with the flight controller on the ground. Ground flight controllers plan to collect data until the device’s solar cells lose access to light.
Flight controllers plan to collect data until the lander’s solar panels are no longer exposed to light. Based on the positions of the Earth and the Moon, we believe flight controllers will continue to communicate with Odysseus through Tuesday morning. As Ukrinform reported, on February 15, SpaceX sent the Odysseus landing module, built by the private American company Intuitive Machines, to the moon.
Odysseus will be the first private spacecraft in history to land on a satellite of the Earth.
12 cargoes were placed on Odysseus. Six of these, including the laser reflector and radio devices, belong to NASA. The devices are designed to collect data to help NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to build a habitable base near the Moon’s south pole by the end of this decade. The rest is owned by various private clients.
Odysseus previously captured the first photographs from space shortly after separating from the second stage of a SpaceX rocket during Intuitive Machines’ first trip to the Moon as part of NASA’s CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) initiative.
