ZTE presented nubia Flip 5G at Mobile World Congress. The first folding of the Chinese brand is committed to ka a young audience looking for these type of designs but at a price they can hit.

Foldables are the most impressive models in the smartphone market, and when we talk about them, almost all of us think of Samsung’s Fold and Flip series, which together dominate 70% of sales. Although Motorola also has an offer of this type of design with the Razr and others such as Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, OnePlus or Xiaomi, it does not seem that the market will change much until the launch of the much-anticipated foldable iPhone. And the high price of this type of design has been a big obstacle to stimulate the market until now.

nubia Flip 5G, simple and economical

The ZTE subsidiary is committed to cutting costs. The clamshell format is well known and was used decades ago by “dumb” cell phones. What we didn’t have back then were flexible multi-touch screens like this model, which allow it to be unfolded and folded at will. The hinge system, which the manufacturer promises, takes care of this “easy to fold and open without creasing”addressing another of the concerns users have about this type of format: their durability.

Similar in size to two benchmarks in the small foldable segment, the Samsung Flip and the Motorola Razr, when fully deployed, the Nubia screen reaches a diagonal of 6.9 inches. Its resolution is high, 1188 x 2790 pixelsas well as its refresh rate: 120 Hz. On the outside there is a small circular screen that serves for notifications, multimedia controls, receiving calls or as a viewfinder for selfies.

Nubia has to save costs to launch the terminal at an affordable price and we see it on the chosen SoC, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 from Qualcomm. Quite beat by the industry, it won’t break performance records (or energy efficiency), but it should be enough to move this terminal. It has a 50MP dual sensor main camera with AI support and a 16MP front camera. Its battery has a capacity of 4310mAh and it has 33W fast wired charging.

The rest of the functions of the nubia Flip 5G were not provided, which should be released soon, in different colors, as we see in the images, updated to the MyOS 14 (Android 14) custom user interface and at a price 599 dollars which should mark the environment where the next generation of compact folding devices should move.
