The end date of classic Microsoft Teams will be extended to July 1, 2024 to give users more time to upgrade to the new version.
The latest version of Microsoft Teams was announced in October 2023. Classic Teams would officially disappear on March 31, 2024, but Microsoft is now announcing an extension of the end date to July 1, 2024. The new Microsoft Teams 2.0 is supposed to be faster, lighter and more economical, but the new version is not yet well received by all users.
Microsoft has extended the classic Microsoft Teams end date from March 31, 2024 to July 1, 2024 to give users additional time to make the switch. The new Teams app has been generally available since October last year, initially in a test phase. The new Microsoft Teams is faster, lighter and more economical, promising smooth transitions between chats and channels (up to 1.7x faster).
It is currently still easy for users to switch between the classic and new Teams app. After Microsoft announced the end date of March 31, 2024, it became apparent that a large majority expressed their preference for classic Teams. Microsoft is now responding by extending the end date to give users enough time to resolve any issues during the transition.
