It looks like Apple has canceled its long-awaited electric car plans. Over the years, it has been revealed that the brand is actively working on autonomous driving technology and more for its own Apple Car, but now it appears that AI (artificial intelligence) is behind the closure of the project.
Apple’s car canceled, focus turns to artificial intelligence
This was reported by Mark Gurman From Bloomberg. The Cupertino-based giant’s ambitious plans have run into problems in recent months, but things appeared to be going well. But earlier this week, the surprise announcement shocked nearly 2,000 employees when chief operations officer Jeff Williams and vice president of projects Kevin Lynch shared the news of the Apple Car’s cancellation.
It was reported that the people working on the automobile project and within the SPG (Special Projects Group) were transferred to another promising field, namely artificial intelligence. The timing of this announcement is in line with the rapid growth of demand for AI and its tremendous growth over the past year. The report claims that the team will now work on generative artificial intelligence. The KMT consists of engineers and vehicle designers, so their fate is unknown, but some of them may be very soon.
If this report is true, it means that Project Titan was buried for the sake of artificial intelligence. This isn’t entirely surprising, given that the electric vehicle market is declining and automakers are now facing production issues and falling demand.
