In Turkey, drones have integrated the MILSAR radar, which can detect sea mines in the Black Sea. This is stated in: reported Meteksan Defense. Turkish company announced that its radar with synthetic aperture MILSAR and moving target indicator SAR/MTI radar has successfully detected drifting sea mines in the Black Sea.

MILSAR can scan large areas of the sea surface, take detailed images and detect drifting mines in real time. The MILSAR SAR/MTI radar was integrated into the ANKA unmanned aerial vehicle belonging to the Naval Forces Command, and mine search activities began in April.

President of the Defense Industry Agency Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir stated that Turkish UAVs have new possibilities and announced that the use of MILSAR has been developed. With the integration of ANKA UAV with MILSAR, Turkey has become one of the few countries that can detect sea mines on the sea surface using UAV radar technology.

Synthetic aperture and moving target radars are important sensors for reconnaissance aircraft as they can continue to provide high resolution images in weather conditions where electro-optical sensors are ineffective. With its weight of less than 30 kg, high resolution images from long distances, easy integration with platforms and useful features, MILSAR increases the power of UAV platforms.

It will be remembered that in January 2022, the Turkish ANKA multi-purpose unmanned aerial vehicle spent more than 30 hours in the air in one flight. Work on the Anka UAV began in 2004. The first flight was made in 2010. It was learned that the first orders were given to the Turkish Armed Forces in 2013. TAI has developed two versions of the aircraft: Anka Blok A and Anka Blok B (Anka-S). In the first version, the combat vehicle can perform reconnaissance functions, and the Anka-S can carry additional payloads in the form of bombs and missiles. Source
