There is a new version of the Brave web browser, and if it hasn’t arrived yet, give it time because it takes a while to complete the update cycle for the more than 60 million users it has worldwide. In the meantime, we will tell you the main news of this launch, even if the headline is correct and everything is going smoothly.
Brave 1.63 is a new version of the browser, and although the numbering doesn’t seem like it, it is Chromium 122 matching update, as was the case with Microsoft Edge 122, one of the most popular derivatives of the open source browser powered by Google. Brave hasn’t reached that level yet, partly because it lacks the muscle from Redmond, but it’s also an increasingly recognized alternative.
This is for two reasons, the two souls of Brave: privacy and cryptocurrency, although neither of them is the main protagonist of this launch. Rather, it’s usability, and Brave 1.63 implements or improves various card-related options. First and most notable for the visual impact it presents is the adoption of floating and rounded lashes.
So, Brave follows the aesthetic path taken by Firefox and Safari (also for Microsoft Edge, although it keeps them as a hidden option for now), with no way to undo the change for now, so if you don’t like it… you’ll just have to put up with it. That said, just as a personal opinion, the refresh was good for Brave, one of the most neglected browsers.
This is what Brave looks like now
Coming down to practical matters, Brave 1.63 improves card management and allows you to move cards around vertical tabs on the right. The feature released in the middle of last year thus expands the degree of customization. You can find the option and its settings in “Settings > Appearance > Tabs”. However, by default, the traditional horizontal tab bar is retained.
Finally, on the subject of tabs, Brave 1.63 improves browser data synchronization and tab management functionality by allowing tab group synchronization. An improvement that’s not expected – it was implemented by Chromium and Chrome late last year – but less welcome due to its basic nature. What’s the point of having a thousand options for managing tabs if you can’t transfer them to other devices (hey, Vivaldi, what’s the point?).
Other new features in Brave 1.63 include improved capabilities of Leo, the browser’s artificial intelligence assistant, which can now handle PDF documents and Google Docsand thus provides summaries of content and related operations. Not using Leo? No problem, because this version has added the option to disable suggestions in the address bar.
Finally, Brave 1.63 adds support for Bitcoin in its cryptocurrency wallet, integrated into the browser for years and suitable for managing Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin and others, to which the queen of the party is now joining. So the hassle of interacting with bitcoins from the browser is over. More information in this link.
