Scholz promised not to send German soldiers to Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised citizens this Thursday thatand while he is the head of government I won’t send soldiers German armed forces (Bundeswehr) into Ukraine after French President Emmanuel Macron considered the possibility last Monday.

We do not want Russia’s war against Ukraine to become a war between Russia and NATO. “We agree with all our allies on this,” he said in a short video message broadcast on social media.

“This means that there will be no German participation in the war. White on black: as Chancellor of Germany, I will not send soldiers from our Bundeswehr to Ukraine.”

The Chancellor said that Ukraine now urgently needs “more ammunition and more weapons, especially for air defense”and assured that together with his allies Germany will strengthen support for Kyiv.

Scholz already rejected the possibility of sending soldiers on Tuesday. even if it does not actively participate in the fighting, following statements on Monday by the French head of state, who raised during a conference in Paris the possibility of sending ground troops to Ukraine if necessary.

Chancellor’s spokesman Steffen Hebestreit reaffirmed this position at a regular press conference today in Berlin, at which he stated that France took a position on the issue “that does not have much international support”.

“It’s not dramatic, we have different opinions. “Germany is in agreement with the United States, Britain, Italy, Poland, Denmark, am I missing anyone?… And with many others who see it the same way we do,” he said, questioning the influence on Franco-German relations.
