It was claimed that hackers hacked Epic Games and stole gigabytes of data

They say this data includes email addresses and passwords (though it’s not clear who exactly; users or developers), names, payment information, seed code, and more. The stolen data is already on sale, but the price is not specified and the deadline is set for March 4.

Details of the incident

Since the ransomware does not provide any evidence of its claims, it is difficult to say whether it was an actual hack and whether they managed to steal anything from Epic Games. The company has not made an official statement on this issue for a while.

Epic Games later confirmed to Eurogamer that it was investigating, but for now No evidence has been obtained that the statements of the Mogilevich group are true. The hackers did not provide evidence to Epic Games upon request.

Fortnite’s developer has become the next gaming giant to be targeted for ransom.

  • Late last year, Insomniac Games was hacked and all sorts of private data became available to the public, such as personal information of current and former employees, source codes for various games, slides detailing future plans, and even early versions of Marvel’s Wolverine.
  • A few years ago, CAPCOM also became the target of a ransomware attack, and the released data revealed, among other things, the release schedule of future games.
  • CD Projekt and Rockstar Games have also been victims of hackers before.
