The Ministry of Digital Transformation started the modernization of the Diya portal; By the end of the year, they plan to fully adapt it to digital accessibility needs, including for visually and hearing impaired people.

Valeriya Tkach, deputy director of the department for the development of electronic services at the Ministry of Digital Transformation, announced this during the presentation of the study “How web accessibility has changed in the public sector” at Ukrinform.

“Unfortunately, not all state web resources in Ukraine yet meet the requirements for digital accessibility. However, last year the situation improved; the number of such sites increased by 23%. The Ministry of Statistics also wants to use its own example to encourage everyone to accelerate this process. Yes, the ministry website, portal and we plan to modernize all pages of the Diya mobile application. And we aim to make the Diya portal fully accessible by the end of the year,” said Tkach.

The Ministry is currently working on the implementation of digital accessibility for all resources of the central government and local self-government institutions, together with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Action Support Project.

“All new services we create are tested for compliance with digital accessibility requirements. So that anyone in Ukraine with limited vision, hearing, etc. can use these services and services without a “mouse”, with the help of a screen reader, etc. These are extremely suitable for such people important things,” added the representative of the Ministry of Statistics.

As reported, in 2020, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the decree “On ensuring the creation of a barrier-free space in Ukraine”, the National Barrier-Free Strategy, the Plan of Measures to Overcome Barriers were adopted, and the Council of Ministers was established under the Barrier-Free Council.
