Trump greets migrants through barbed wire: ‘They like Trump,’ he says

Former US President Donald Trump greeted people on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande while visiting the US-Mexico border in Eagle Pass, Texas, with Gov. Greg Abbott.

“They like Trump. Can you believe it?” Trump told the camera he was accompanying him after a voice was heard shouting his name from across the river.

US President Joe Biden and Trump made dueling visits to the US-Mexico border on Thursday as the influx of migrants became a dominant issue for voters.

The officials, along with Abbott, briefed Trump on the Rio Grande before he spoke at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, accompanied by officials.

“The United States is being invaded Biden’s immigration crimes. “This is a new form of brutal violence against our country,” Trump said, citing the increasingly incendiary language he has used to describe the border issue and criticize his rival’s policies.

Eagle Pass remains a flashpoint in the heated partisan debate over border security, even as the number of immigrants caught crossing the border illegally both there and in Brownsville fell sharply in January and February.

The number of migrants caught illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border hit a monthly record of 250,000 in December but fell by half in January. US officials attribute this trend to tougher law enforcement measures in Mexico.
