According to initial reports, the fire started at the Kacchi Bhai restaurant in the Green Cozy Cottage shopping center, located on Bailey Central Street.

According to Dhaka Tribune, the fire service saved about 70 people42 of them were unconscious on the roof and in other rooms of the seven-story building.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but preliminary investigations point to a gas stove in the restaurant on the ground floor.
