Elon Musk sued OpenAI

Elon Musk, known for electric cars and SpaceX, among other things, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, the artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory he helped found. He accuses the company of abandoning its original goal of creating non-commercial AI that is useful to everyone. The fact that OpenAI, known for its ChatGPT language model, is now supported by Microsoft is a cause for concern in Musk’s eyes. He claims that the company, which was originally designed as an open, non-profit organization, is now focused on making money for its investors.

OpenAI and Microsoft have yet to issue a public statement

The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco, asks the court to force OpenAI to:

  • Communicate your research and technologies. This will allow everyone to learn and improve OpenAI’s work and contribute to the wider development of artificial intelligence.
  • Prevent GPT-4, the most advanced AI model, from being used for financial gain. This applies to people associated with both Microsoft and OpenAI.

Musk has long voiced concerns about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence and called for regulation. He left OpenAI’s board in 2018 and criticized Microsoft’s involvement. He believes the tech giant has too much influence, if not direct control, over OpenAI. This legal battle adds another layer to the complex world of artificial intelligence development. While the outcome is uncertain, it raises important questions about the ethics, purpose and control of this powerful technology.

Meanwhile, Musk is busy with his own project with artificial intelligence xAI. The startup aims to create “truth-seeking AI” and recently launched ChatGPT rival Grok, which publishes a real prescription when asked.
