Borrell accused Israel of killing civilians looking for food in the Gaza Strip

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, be responsible pit Israel for killing 112 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip while they were attending a food distributionand assured that “Israeli soldiers shooting at civilians trying to access food is unjustified.”

The head of European diplomacy not only demanded “an impartial international investigation into this tragic event”but went further, saying in a statement that “responsibility for this incident lies with the restrictions imposed by the Israeli army” on the import and distribution of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

According to Borrell, many of the civilians who died while trying to deliver food by humanitarian convoy were “victims of Israeli fire during the stampede that followed.” to this event that took place this Thursday in the north of the Gaza Strip.

In his opinion, this is Israel’s responsibility. “comply with international law and protect the distribution of humanitarian assistance to civilians.”

However, the community leader also believes that “violent extremists’ obstruction of humanitarian aid” is one of those responsible for this tragedy, without directly mentioning who they are.

This very serious incident shows that restrictions on the flow of humanitarian aid contribute to shortages, hunger and disease, and levels of desperation that breed violence.

The head of European diplomacy predicted “Complete chaos that will make the distribution of humanitarian aid impossible”If the fighting between Israel and Hamas does not stop and the “disrespect for international humanitarian law” continues.

Borrell called on Israel to lift restrictions on the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and allow “free, unimpeded and secure” humanitarian access through all border points with the sector.

We call on Israel to immediately remove the obstacles at the Kerem Shalom crossing and open access in the north through the Karni and Erez crossings, open the port of Ashdod to humanitarian assistance, and allow a direct humanitarian corridor from Jordan.

In his opinion, drops of food or essential goods “should be “last decision”since “its impact is minimal and not without risk to civilians.”

More precisely, the day after the President of the United States Joe Biden announced this Friday that they will airlift food and medical supplies to Gaza.

Borrell insisted on the need for a ceasefire in the sector to allow large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid and to protect civilians.

The war in the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7 after Hamas attacks on Israel in which the Islamist group killed about 1,200 people and kidnapped more than 200, has already killed more than 30,000 people, mostly women and children.
