In the extraordinary incident that took place off the coast of Whitianga, New Zealand, a group of five fishermen witnessed a shark suddenly approaching their yacht. These moments were recorded on video.
Fishermen hoping to spend the day fishing for mackerel unexpectedly caught a large mako shark known for its incredible speed. During this unexpected encounter, the captain warned the fishermen against the possibility of a shark jumping on deck and advised them to stay away. The situation quickly escalated when the shark actually jumped onto the yacht.
This particular specimen was approximately 2.5 meters long and weighed approximately 150 kg. It swung forcefully around the front of the ship, hitting its tail against the windshield, before finally returning to the water.
Mako sharks, which mostly stay close to the surface of the water and are often found off the coast of New Zealand, are known to be able to jump to a considerable height when hooked, sometimes up to 10 meters. Source
