The Vatican’s Pontifical Academy for Life stated that This cannot be the right to end human life, in response to the French Senate’s decision to include abortion in the Constitution.

“The Pontifical Academy for Life affirms that precisely in the era of universal human rights there can be no ‘right’ to suppress human life,” the statement said.

On February 28, the French Senate approved the inclusion of abortion rights in the Constitution under the same conditions that the National Assembly had decided almost a month earlier, making France the first country to enact the measure.

The Vatican Academy appeals to all governments of the world and to all religions to say at this point in history:protecting life becomes an absolute prioritywith concrete steps in favor of peace and social justice, with effective measures to ensure universal access to resources, education and health care.”

“The special situations of life, as well as the difficult and dramatic situations of our time, must be resolved with the help of the tools of a legal civilization, which is primarily concerned with the protection of the weakest and most vulnerable,” he points out.
