Charge your smartphone

One in three IT professionals prefer to put their phone down at night to charge it, and another third wait until the battery level drops below twenty percent. This emerges from a survey conducted by ITdaily among its readers.

Whatever smartphone you own, sooner or later you will need to charge it. Everyone has their own charging habits. Some make it a point to balance the battery within a certain percentage range, while others rush to the charger only when the battery begins to fail. There are also many smartphone users who always charge their devices overnight. This month, ITdaily examined the charging habits of IT professionals.

232 participants took part in the online survey. For more than half, the battery level is not a decisive factor in determining when the device needs to be charged. 21 percent charge their device from time to time whenever it suits them. A fast charger offers this luxury: a previous survey found that 36 percent of IT professionals have one.

The most popular time to charge a phone seems to be at night. 33 percent of IT professionals leave their phone on the charger when they go to bed to ensure they can start the next day with a full battery. The survey does not give a clear answer as to whether the battery is always 100 percent charged or whether the software stops charging at, for example, eighty percent.

Late, later, too late?

The remaining 54 percent wait until the battery level drops below a certain percentage before recharging the device. Thirteen percent do this when the battery is 50 percent empty. At 32 percent, a battery level of twenty percent or less is the limit for recharging. If you wait until the battery is almost empty, it may be too late, although only one percent say they don’t charge their phone until the battery is completely empty.

Every month we survey our readers about a current technology topic. Curious about the results of previous surveys? You can find the overview here.
