He Nothing Phone (2a) Now it’s official. The new smartphone from Carl Pei, who was once the co-founder and director of OnePlus, has arrived in line with the many rumors and leaks that have been published before this announcement, so we can already get an idea. very clearly about its profile and what type of product it is.

For those lost, the Nothing Phone (2a) is basically a smaller version of the Nothing Phone (2), with fewer features and a lower price, but it retains a similar design and shares many features. Given that the original model uses a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, it is clear that there is room to launch a more modest device that is also very affordable for the vast majority of users. No, a high-end SoC is not necessary for messaging, email, social media and web browsing.

Since the smartphone market is saturated with very similar designs, we’ll start with one of the most interesting aspects of the Nothing (2a): Glyph interface that has 26 individually addressable zones. Three built-in lights support Glyph Timer, Glyph Torch, Glyph Progress and Notification. On the other hand, the back panel wraps around the edges at a 90-degree angle to make the device more resistant to drops, adding to this the back, which is available in black or white.

In terms of external functions, the user will see that Nothing Phone (2a) implements a 6.78 inch AMOLED type with 10-bit color depth, native resolution 1084 x 2412 pixelsvariable refresh rate between 30 and 120 Hz and maximum brightness of 1,300 nits.

As for the inner parts, we find a Size 7200 Pro from MediaTek as SoC, 8 or 12 gigabytes of RAM, 128 or 256 gigabytes of storage internal for data, in addition to a 5,000mAh battery that can be charged at 45 watts up to 50% in 23 minutes and up to 100% in 59 minutes.

The camera configuration is not spectacular at all, but it may be enough for users who do not have high demands. On the back, there’s a dual configuration where the primary sensor is 50MP, f/1.88 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS), while the secondary is a fixed-focus wide-angle that supports 50MP resolution and f/2.2 aperture. The front camera has a resolution of 32 MP and an aperture of f/2.2.

The last feature to highlight is the operating system, which in this case is Android 14 with Nothing OS 2.5 customization layer. It is worth noting that the Nothing Phone promised three years of operating system updates and four years of security updates. These numbers may not sound bad considering the aggressive planned obsolescence policy usually used in the industry, but still, it never hurts to see if the lifespan can be extended with ROMs.

The Nic Phone (2a) will be available globally, excluding the United States, from March 12, 2024. Prices are 329 euros for the model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of data storage (including the operating system) and 379 euros for the model with 12 GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
