Presidential elections will be held in Venezuela on July 28.

Venezuela will presidential elections on July 28.This was announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which also provided the most important dates of the schedule that will be in effect until the elections are held.

According to CNE President Elvis Amoroso, the schedule, which takes into account all the legal and technical constitutional requirements for holding the 2024 presidential elections, includes the following: Candidate applications will be accepted from March 21 to 25.

Election campaigns and voter registration

The official also explained that the election campaign, which in this case will last 21 days, will take place from July 4 to July 25.

The calendar also states that there will be a special period for voter registration, both national and international, which will run from March 18 to April 16.

The chosen date received the greatest support from political organizations during the consultation process carried out by the Chavismo-controlled National Assembly (Parliament), including from the Somos Venezuela Movement, a close ally of the ruling PSUV party.

Venezuela is thus honoring the agreement between the government and the main opposition coalition last October, when they agreed in Barbados that elections would be held in the second half of the year.

Nicolas Maduro will run for a third term

The ruling party says President Nicolas Maduro will run for a third term, although the politician has not confirmed his candidacy.

While on the opposition side, Maria Corina Machado, elected by the majority in the October primaries, remains deprived of the right to hold an elected position and, therefore, to run for the presidency.

Machado was convicted of “participating in a corruption plot orchestrated by the usurper Juan Guaidó” that led to a “criminal blockade” of Venezuela and “the flagrant dispossession of the people’s companies and wealth.” (EFE and Europa Press)
