Two years after the start of the war in Ukraine European Commission He already has the first defense plan in history. The strategy unveiled Tuesday is based largely on pumping more money into the defense industry. A fund will be mobilized to increase weapons production 1.5 billion euros from now until 2027.
However, Brussels knows that this amount is far from what it needs. That’s why countries are going to start discussing ways to increase investment now. Some governments have already asked to issue public debt to finance themselves.
In addition, European countries will be encouraged to make joint purchases in order to have more bargaining power and have more ammunition. At least 40% of the material must be purchased jointly. from now until 2030 and calls on the bloc’s governments to also increase their defense spending.

In some defense programs included in this new strategy, Ukraine will be able to participate, and in this way it will be possible to promote the full integration of this country into the European Union in the future.
Brussels is responding in this way to concerns that trump return to the White House, leaving 27 countries at the mercy of the Russian threat. The arms industry in Europe was clearly very backward for many years.
“We need to find the right transatlantic balance, regardless of the electoral dynamics in the United States,” said Margrethe Vestager, vice-president of the European Commission.
This new plan begins to outline what Europe will be like in the coming years, through a legislature that promises to focus on safety.
