Microsoft announced the date when it will end support for the Windows Subsystem for Android, which allows you to run applications and games from the Google operating system on Windows 11. This is a feature that became available shortly after the release of Windows 11. In 2021, Windows 11 opened the doors to installing APKs through stores such as Amazon, as well as installing APK files, just like we would do on Android.

What was Microsoft WSA?. In October 2021, we received a big announcement from Microsoft. Thanks to the Amazon App Store and Windows 11, it has become possible to run Android applications on our Windows computer.

It’s a system that opened the doors to the point where we could install APKs outside of the Amazon store, and thanks to this subsystem, Windows could run them.

Last year’s movements. In May 2023, Amazon and Microsoft removed their stores from beta and invited developers to publish their apps there. Any developer who meets the requirements will be able to bring their Android apps to the Windows 11 store.

Farewell to WSA. March 5, 2025. This is the date when Microsoft announced that it would discontinue the Windows subsystem for Android. Within a year, Windows 11 will stop supporting such applications.

Microsoft did not explain the reason for the decision or the reasons that led to it. We only know that WSA will disappear due to a small update box in its dedicated section of the website.

Until then, we can continue to use Android apps on Windows. no further updates expected in the subsystem. It’s a well-implemented idea, but it will bid farewell in a year with little progress.
