Resident Evil 9 is one of the most important projects that Capcom has in development right now, and according to the most reliable sources we have right now, it would be at this stage. from 2018that is, even before the release of Resident Evil Village, which It is considered to be Resident Evil 8.

There’s an explanation for that, and it’s a Japanese company not waiting for delivery of its well-known franchise to start developing another one, and it’s quite normal, because it would cause it to be significantly delayed. With that in mind, Resident Evil 9 could be five to six years in development, depending on the launch date.

Capcom hasn’t officially announced Resident Evil 9 yet, but I’ll probably use Capcom Highlights which will take place tomorrow, March 7, open the watermelon and offer the first details of what this franchise is supposed to contain. While we wait, and to whet your appetite, I want to share with you a summary of all the information we have so far about Resident Evil 9, as well as the rest of the franchise.

Resident Evil 9 could say goodbye to the old gen

re4 remake

It would be the most logical, but it is not confirmed, so right now we have to wait for the Japanese company to decide. I say it would be the most logical since the PS4 and Xbox One have already ended their life cycle, are technically sold out and releasing a version of Resident Evil 9 for these consoles would have a negative impact on the game’s graphical quality, as it would force the developers to break away from the limitations of the old generation.

We have already seen this problem in Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake which They adopted a linear and quite corridor development, and that they had very limited stages in size, moreover bad geometry and texturing which were particularly evident in the settings and objects present in them. The contrast with the huge quality of the main models was enormous, to the point where it sometimes looks like two different generations of hardware are being combined.

Chris Redfield as the protagonist and the post-apocalyptic setting

The latest information points in that direction, albeit with some very interesting background details that suggest a change of scenery compared to the previous two installments. In theory, Resident Evil 9 will serve as the closure of the story thread started with Resident Evil 7and the focus is on Chris Redfield, one of the most important and beloved characters of the franchise, who will share the stage with Rose Winters. Both will have to face new “deformed” enemies, which reinforces the idea of a biological apocalypse.

So far nothing of what we expected, the interesting thing is that Resident Evil 9 could be planted post-apocalyptic setting in rural United States. There is talk of a ghost town, but I believe that this assessment is based on an error in interpretation and that it ultimately means that a small town in the United States would be affected by a disaster related to biological weapons.

We don’t expect major changes in terms of gameplay, although in this installment it is likely that Capcom will offer from the start option to play with the camera in first or third person. Puzzles will appear again, we will have different weapons to fight enemies with, and we will be able to upgrade them with a certain resource. The latter was introduced years ago with Resident Evil 4 and was brought back in Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil Village and later.

When is Resident Evil 9 coming?

Everything points to the fact that we will see it this year, although we still have nothing official in this regard. If we analyze what Capcom has been doing in recent years, Resident Evil Village arrived four years after Resident Evil 7. In May, it will be three years since the launch of Resident Evil Village, so there is also a possibility that the launch of Resident Evil 9 be postponed to 2025 and we will only see a new remake this year.

Personally, I can’t lean towards one theory or the other, because both make sense and could be perfectly fulfilled. I hope that Capcom will shed some light on the issue in the coming days, although I can confirm that if a new remake is announced, we won’t see Resident Evil 9 until next year because Capcom It is not going to release two parts of this franchise in the same year. The reason is very simple, it would be counterproductive at the sales level.

What other projects is Capcom preparing as part of the Resident Evil saga?

In addition to Resident Evil 9, two more new games are almost certain to arrive in sequence, and yes, both will be remakes of classic installments. First to arrive Remake Resident Evil Code Veronica, and is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated as it was an excellent van that went completely unnoticed in its generation, which is quite unfair to be honest. I was able to play it on the Dreamcast and it was ahead of its time, the first installment in the franchise in full 3D.

It would be in second place Resident Evil 5 Remake, which is based on a less old work and with better graphics, the gameplay of which is also much closer to the remakes that Capcom publishes. It’s not one of my favorite works, but I’m quite curious how the Japanese company will approach this remake. This project would still be a few years away if all the rumors we’ve seen come true.
