A global study by Dynatrace shows that companies are struggling to stay on top of their multicloud. An abundance of data and tools acts as a brake on innovation.

Dynatrace publishes the results of the study in State of observabilityreport the results of a survey of a thousand companies worldwide. Around fifty companies from the Benelux countries also took part in the study. The results show that more and more companies are turning to multi-cloud to enable rapid transformation and secure innovation. But companies are also drowning in the enormous amounts of data that a multicloud generates.

Getting lost in applications and data

Complexity is the key word. 98 percent of Benelux respondents say the complexity of their technology architecture has increased over the last twelve months, and 72 percent expect it to continue to increase. The average multi-cloud environment includes twelve different platforms and services. The complexity makes it more difficult for many companies to provide an optimal customer experience and protect applications.

Companies not only struggle with a wealth of applications and platforms, but above all with a wealth of data. 82 percent of IT managers say the amount of data they need to manage exceeds human capacity. 88 percent say the number of tools, platforms, dashboards and applications they rely on adds to the complexity of managing a multi-cloud environment, with an average of 11 different monitoring tools in use.

AIOps is reaching its limits

Dynatrace conducted the research to demonstrate the importance of a mature AI, analytics and automation strategy. It’s not that companies aren’t trying: 84 percent of participants say an “AIOps strategy” has been implemented, but not always successfully. The amount of manual work required to maintain monitoring tools and transform data into concrete insights limits the value of AIOps.
