This Wednesday, the United States called on the Prime Minister of Haiti to: Ariel HenryTo “act urgently” to carry out “a political process that will lead to a change of president” in the country, its ambassador to the UN said, Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
Henry is now in the United States, namely in Puerto Rico (commonwealth affiliated with the United States) after he landed unexpectedly on Tuesday and when his whereabouts were unknown for several days and it was unknown what his next steps would be.
When asked whether the US had asked her to resign (as some media reported), the US ambassador did not answer directly, but insisted that the message her country was conveying to her was to move quickly to transition.

Henry announced last week that I’ll announce elections until August 31, 2025, but the announcement deepened the crisis in the country, which has entered a spiral of violence that has caused displacement of 15,000 people and a dozen deaths.
