The measure’s primary goal is to rid the New York City subway system of “people who commit crimes and protect all New Yorkers, whether commuters or transit workers,” the governor said.

“No one going to work, visiting a family member or going to a doctor’s appointment should have to worry about the person sitting next to them carrying a deadly weapon,” Hochul said.

“And for those who feel upset every time they walk through these turnstiles, we will stop at nothing to keep you safe. You and your family members,” he added.

A man is stabbed to death and thrown onto the tracks in a New York subway.

In just a week, at least three people were injured on the New York subway.

Two of them were stabbed, including the driver; And thirdA 64-year-old man was pushed into metro tracks.

Khochul also called for an extension system from CCTV at suburban stations.

“If they had installed a camera in Elton Scott’s driver’s cab last Thursday, we probably would have already arrested the man who cut his throat (…) Or we wouldn’t have done it at all,” the New York governor said at the time.
