SAP is significantly expanding Datasphere. Datasphere is the spiritual successor to the Data Warehouse Cloud and with new updates, SAP wants to make the data platform “ready for the AI ​​age”. New AI-based capabilities make business planning easier by simplifying the data landscape and making interacting with data more intuitive.

At the beginning of the year, SAP promised to go “all-in” on (generative) AI and wants to keep this promise within Datasphere. It expands the Analytics Cloud with its own generative AI tool Joule. By using vector functionalities in the S/4HANA Cloud, Joule has access to relevant company data. The integration of Collibra’s AI policy platform is intended to ensure reliable data and greater transparency.

Another addition to Datasphere is the Knowledge graph This is intended to bring hidden insights and patterns in data to the surface. This enables both technical and business users to understand deep connections between data, metadata and business processes.

To help companies find the path from insights to planning, Datasphere will also have a “compass” feature. Companies can run complex simulations via a chat interface, with direct connection to SAP applications and third-party data. This allows them to estimate the impact of certain policy decisions to arrive at the best plan.

Charm offensive

That all sounds well and good, but SAP hasn’t been particularly popular with its own customers in recent months. The company wants to bring everyone into the cloud and demonstratively favors its cloud customers, which customers who prefer to stay on site logically only moderately appreciate.

Belgian companies are also not entirely satisfied with the way SAP works. Beltug, the Belgian association of IT decision makers, has set up a task force to listen to these concerns. SAP is now trying to win over dissatisfied customers with a financial charm offensive.
