GPD Win 4 2024 is another next-generation portable console that will revive the mobile gaming market. The Chinese company behind its development announced its availability from April and the final prices of the first versions. It’s cool, but whoever wants it will have to dig deep into their pockets.

Before Valve launched its Steam Deck and ushered in the current portable technology, GPD had already launched several handheld gaming machines. One of the most attractive models bet on a very special design, from included a physical keyboard below the sliding screen. The same version was improved several versions until it reached GPD Win 4 2024, the launch of which we bring you today.

GPD continues to bet on a 6-inch IPS touch screen diagonal, with a native resolution of FHD for 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The controls are pretty much the same as we’ve come to know, with two analog sticks on either side of the screen, a D-Pad, action buttons, and a linear trigger analog. Its curved outer chassis still reminds us of the Sony PSP (but bigger).

Inside we see the biggest news of this version, AMD Ryzen 8 series processors that can be installed, with options Ryzen 8 8840U or Ryzen 5 8640U. Impressive development for a pocket machine with its 8 physical cores and 16 threads and a frequency that can exceed 5 GHz. The integrated graphics card is a Radeon 780M with 12 compute units, but for those who want more, GPD has added an Oculink port with support for 63 Gbps data transfer, allowing users to connect a high-speed external graphics base provided by the company.

All configurations have mMemory LPDDR5x-7500PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD storage and port array that includes:

  • 1 USB4 Type-C (40 Gbps)
  • 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C (10 Gb/s)
  • 1 OCuLink (63 Gbps)
  • 1 3.5 mm audio jack
  • 1 microSD card reader

It also has stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity and can optionally be equipped with a module to give the machine 4G mobile broadband.

The GPD Win 4 2024 comes pre-installed with Windows 11 and is available on Indiegogo for delivery in April. The available configuration is high-end with Ryzen 7, 32 GB of RAM and a Tbyte SSD that increases its price above 900 euros/dollar. A very high price, although we expect GPD to market more basic and more economical configurations.
