Philips 3300 LatteGo, review: perfect espresso at home

In the ever-growing world of coffee lovers, finding the perfect espresso at home is a constant odyssey. The Super automatic coffee machine Philips 3300 LatteGo It presents itself as a possible solution to this eternal search. With this coffee machine, the Dutch brand promises us simplicity, versatility and a solution for frothing milk that is efficient and above all clean. A device that seeks to change the experience of enjoying coffee at home. Let’s take an in-depth look at its features and what it has to offer in the automatic coffee maker market.

After opening the box we find:

  • Super automatic coffee machine series 3300 LatteGo milk solution
  • Measuring cup
  • Water hardness test strip
  • AquaClean filter
  • Lubricating lubrication tube
  • LatteGo storage lid

First look at the Philips 3300 LatteGo

This is the first time we’ve come face to face with this super-automatic coffee maker, and although it’s a large device and will really need a prime spot on your counter, it’s compact appearance and even the way its various accessories (water carafe, coffee container) are placed , milk frother…) makes any step or maintenance you want to do convenient and quick. It has a careful design with minimalist lines and a black and white finish that will fit into any kitchen or coffee corner.

The first thing that catches our eye when we turn on the Philips 3300 LatteGo is the full-color touch front panel, on one side we see different types of drinks from which we can choose: espresso, coffee, iced coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato and hot water. On the right, we will see different warning lights in case you have to communicate with the coffee machine (add water, clean the grounds, etc.) and options for customizing the coffee, among which we can find the coffee intensity, the amount of coffee and the amount of milk/foam. Something that is missing and which we will see later is that there is no distinction between the amount of milk and the amount of foam, but rather they go hand in hand.

In addition to these options, using the panel we can choose between several levels of coffee temperature, choose the option of ground coffee if we want to drink a different variety, or adjust the default values for each drink. Especially useful if you are a creature of habit and like to drink coffee the same way every time.

At the top we have a coffee container with a wheel where we can customize the ceramic grinder by choosing the grinding level between 12 steps, from fine to a much coarser finish. Ideal for users who like to experiment with the texture of coffee.

Next to it, we find a smaller container into which we can add ground coffee for a batch, in case we fancy a different variety. I find this option useful not only for choosing between the different types of coffee you can have at home, but also for being able to have decaffeinated coffee if you’re craving it and to prevent insomnia from taking its toll.

The LatteGo system, simple, clean and frothy

But the crown jewel of the Philips 3300 LatteGo is undoubtedly its LatteGo system, an innovative milk system that promises the smoothest froth with quick and easy cleaning. The system is quite simple, just two pieces that fit together with one click and no tubes (or their subsequent cleaning). In addition, it is a very simple system for those who enjoy milk drinks but are afraid of cleaning up afterwards.

I was able to test the LatteGo in both cow’s milk and various plant-based milks (barista range and regular) and the truth is that the result was amazing with all of them. Even in the most disgusting plant-based milk you can throw in your face, it foams enough to add that touch to any coffee. In fact, since I always love coffee with milk, I miss the ability to distinguish between the amount of milk and foam, especially in the options for customizing the drink. Sometimes it can be a bit over the top, but to reduce the foam level you also need to reduce the amount of milk.

In addition, the frothing system can make the milk a bit cold depending on the user, another point for which it would be particularly useful to distinguish between milk and foam levels. Despite this, the result is good (although it will largely depend on the quality of coffee you consume) and the process is fast and intuitive.

There is a lack of drinking options such as traditional coffee with milk, with a coffee/milk ratio different from latte macchiato (and especially common here), or simply a glass of hot milk with foam, without coffee. Just as we find the option of hot water, this additional option would be a plus. This is an improvement that we find in some of the higher models of the brand, but which we miss in the Philips 3300 LatteGo.

Another innovation that accompanies this coffee machine is SilentBrew technology, which promises 40% less noise than previous Philips models. It is true that we cannot compare because we have not analyzed other coffee machines of this brand, but it seems to be less noisy than other models. But we must not lose sight of the fact that it is a noisy process and that, despite the acoustic protection of this type, it is better not to make coffee at dawn if you live with someone you can disturb or if you have aggressive neighbors.

One of the most demanding points of automatic coffee machines is usually maintenance, specifically the descaling process. To make this task more bearable or at least less common, the Philips 3300 LatteGo comes with AquaClean technology. This water filter promises to make up to 5,000 cups of coffee before you need to descale the machine. Calculating about 3 cups a day, this would mean not going through this maintenance for 4 to 5 years. I understand that this calculation will vary depending on various factors, such as the type or size of coffee being made or the hardness of the water in the area where you live. As you will understand, we have not been able to verify the effectiveness of the AquaClean filter, but it certainly promises a lot.

A special mention also goes to the Philips HomeID app, which recently welcomed former Philips Coffee+ users. In this application, which is not integrated with the coffee machine itself, you will find instructions, maintenance information and useful tips and tricks for the Philips 3300 LatteGo or any other appliance of the brand.

Conclusions

The Philips 3300 LatteGo is an ideal coffee maker for both beginners and advanced users. Leaving aside the price, which is really not for all budgets, we are facing a quality automatic coffee machine, with a careful design, simple appearance and structure, suitable for all audiences, the coffee preparation process intuitive and a convenient maintenance and cleaning system. Ideal for the vast majority of users and for those who don’t enjoy the entire process of coffee preparation as much. A very good choice for those looking for the perfect coffee from the comfort of their sofa.

The Philips 3300 LatteGo is available on the Philips website for €549.99 and is also available on retail channels such as Amazon.
